“Everything Is Fine” And Other Lies We Tell
Everyone, everywhere on this planet has something to worry about. Most of us have internal battles on a daily basis. Some feel helpless, hopeless and lost. But no matter how severely our lights have been dimmed, it is possible to shine again. It’s also possible to shine so bright that no matter what happens to us, or what anyone else says or does can darken it.
This may seem easier said than done. Believe me, I’ve done it so I know how hard and painful it can be to. But just because something is difficult, quitting cannot be an option. We’ve all felt stuck inside ourselves, wallowing in self pity, hatred, sadness, embarrassment and complete and utter burn out. It takes guts to look yourself in the mirror and realize that you have work to do. But what’s even harder is finding the courage to start. We’ve all used our weaknesses as a crutch to continue acting a certain way, saying things like, “I am who I am and I will never change.” Deep down you know those qualities aren’t a part of your authenticity, especially when you know they can and inevitably will cause damage.
Start somewhere. My journey might not necessarily work for everyone. But I started with daily affirmations in order to fall back in love with myself. It was slow at first but with daily practice I got there quickly. Next, I did guided meditations and learned techniques from different YouTube channels on ways to overcome doubt and insecurity. I switched my focus from what I was lacking to being grateful for everything, everyone, every experience and lesson life has given me. I then challenged myself to go a week without complaining. And in the blink of an eye, things began to shift. And things are still shifting. I’ve had set backs but I kept going. My first thought in the morning changed from, “I wonder what bullshit I’m going to experience today,” to “Thank you for another day. It’s gonna be great.”
Use your imagination. Believe you can have and accomplish anything you desire. Nothing is impossible. And if you find yourself in the darkness, use your light to guide you to the next level. If you’re lucky enough to have someone who loves you unconditionally and is there to help with your elevation, allow it. Those people are rare and you will remember who helped when you needed it. I remember mine and I’m thankful for him every single day.
You got this!
