Pull Yourselves Together

I get it. Your boyfriend broke up with you. You feel sad, hurt, angry, scared and alone. We’ve all been there. The feelings of desperation, that you’ll never be normal again. It feels like someone ripped your beating heart out of your chest, stomped on it, and threw it to a pack of hungry wolves. It sucks. Believe me, I know the feeling all too well. But how you react in the days and weeks following are completely on you. I’d be a big fat liar if I said I’ve always handled everything with grace and dignity. But, today I was reminded just how crazy people really are. There’s a pretty obvious line between hurt feelings and blatantly crazy. And I can say with 100% certainty, that my reactions were equivalent to a kitten playing with a piece of string. I swatted at it for a while, eventually lost interest and moved on to a better, shinier toy. Every once in a while, you’ll see that same piece of string, chew on it for a second and get on with life again. That is a NORMAL reaction. Let me give you a list of abnormal and certifiably crazy reactions:

1) Destroying your ex’s property (tire slashing, stealing, breaking in to their home, etc)

2) Hacking into your ex’s social media and posting photos of the two of you. (especially when you know your ex is trying to get on with his life) Actually, how about having respect for the person you once loved and NOT hacking into anything? Period.

3) Showing up unannounced. If you’re blocked, it’s for a reason. That reason, being the one you just proved by knocking on his door without warning.

4) Harassing their new love interest. Chances are, she was just a girl who met a guy. And she had no idea that you even existed. It’s not her fault. So leave her alone.

This list could be much longer. But the big picture is: if you truly did love your ex, as hard of a pill as it is to swallow, LET HIM GO! I remember a conversation with my favorite guy friend. He said, “When you were together, their happiness was one of your priorities, right? Just because the relationship ended, that sentiment shouldn’t change.” If they weren’t happy with you, why would you try to interfere with their future happiness?

Moving on is hard. But being vindictive and making a giant ass out of yourself will definitely make your life harder and will certainly not give you the happiness you deserve too.

Keep it classy!
